BEIJING, Jan. 11 (ChinaMil) -- China's Defense Ministry Spokesperson Senior Colonel Wu Qian made on Wednesday interpretations on the connotative import of the military flag for the Chinese People's Armed Police Force (APF).

At a ceremony held by the Central Military Commission (CMC) on Wednesday to confer a military flag on the armed police force, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CMC, presented the flag to Commander Wang Ning and Political Commissar Zhu Shengling of the armed police force.

The decision made by the CMC to confer the Ensign of the Chinese People's Armed Police Force is designed to encourage the armed police troops to better fulfill their missions in the new era and be loyal guards of the CPC and the people forever, Wu said.

As for the implied meaning of the armed police force's flag, Wu gave the reporters his interpretations that the upper-half of the armed police force's flag keeps the pattern of the Ensign of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), which implies that the armed police force was born in the cradle of the PLA and is a component part of the people's armed forces led by the CPC.

The lower-half of the flag is embedded with three deep olive green stripes representing the armed police force’s three main strength compositions and their tasks of safeguarding China's political security and social stability, maritime rights protection and law enforcement as well as defensive operations, Wu said.
