The J-20, a new-generation stealth fighter jet independently developed by China, recently had its first realistic military training on the sea. Military expert Wang Mingliang said in an interview with China Central Television that the J-20 is sure to patrol the Taiwan Island in the future.
Wang pointed out that China is currently focusing on military preparedness on the sea, and the J-20 fighter jet, shifting its flight training from the land to the sea, also aims to become familiar with maritime battles. In the future, the J-20 fighter jets' mission will be to secure air supremacy over the enemy's 4th generation fighter jets, create overwhelming advantages over the enemy's 3rd generation fighter jets, and launch surprise attacks on sea targets, added Wang.
Senior Colonel Shen Jinke, spokesperson for the PLA Air Force, said on May 12 that since the J-20 was commissioned it has had realistic air battle training with other fighter jets like the J-16 and J-10C, playing an important role in systematic confrontational drills.
According to Wang, joining the realistic training with the J-16 and J-10C indicates that the J-20 is an integrated fighter jet, a "role that the past three generations of fighter jets have never played".
Wang Mingzhi, another military expert, held that the first realistic flight training on the sea meant the J-20 was capable of conducting sea battles and has taken an important step forward to all-territory combat operations. That capability will be further enhanced after it completes adaptive training on land, sea and the plateau.
Both experts believe the J-20 is sure to patrol the Taiwan Island in the future.
