China appreciates that El Salvador abolished the so-called "free trade agreement (FTA)" with the Taiwan region, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Thursday.
Noting that the Salvadoran Supreme Court on Monday issued a proclamation formally declaring that the protective measures taken against the so-called "FTA" between El Salvador and Taiwan region are null and void, Zhao said China highly appreciates the fact that the Salvadoran side is on the right side of history and has made a decision that is in the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries.
Adherence to the one-China principle is a universally recognized principle and represents people's aspirations and the trend of the world, and cannot be stopped by any force, the spokesperson added.
China and El Salvador jointly announced that both sides are willing to start the process related to the bilateral FTA negotiations as soon as possible and to work together to complete the process soon, which fully demonstrates the common will of the two countries to deepen bilateral relations and raise the level of economic and trade cooperation, he said.
China is ready to work with the Salvadoran side to tap fully into the potential for cooperation and jointly build a better future for China-El Salvador ties, he added.
