BEIJING, Feb. 24 -- China always holds that the exchange and cooperation between countries should be conducive to regional peace and stability, instead of targeting or undermining the interests of any third party, said Senior Colonel Tan Kefei, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, at a regular media briefing on Thursday.
He made the remarks in response to US and Japan's recent ill-intended words and deeds on Taiwan-related issues. According to media reports, Japanese defense minister Nobuo Kishi claimed that China attempted to unilaterally change the status quo during his meeting with the US ambassador to Japan. Some comments also believed that the new joint operation plan between Japan and the US was drafted in response to a so-called “Taiwan emergency”.
Tan pointed out that Japan and the US have deliberately hyped up and manipulated Taiwan-related issues on various occasions for a long time. Their insidious remarks and deeds have not only sent the wrong signal to the "Taiwan-independence" forces and seriously threatened the cross-Strait peace and stability, but also further revealed who have been sabotaging the international rules, violating other countries’ sovereignty, and causing regional turmoil, added Tan.
The spokesperson stressed that such sinister moves will not shake the Chinese PLA’s resolution to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and China has been fully prepared to foil external inference and the secessionist attempt for “Taiwan independence” in any form.
