GAO, Mali, May 31 -- At the 5.31 Memorial Site in Gao on Monday, the 9th Chinese peacekeeping force to Mali held a memorial ceremony to pay tribute to the peacekeeping martyr and "people's hero" Shen Liangliang, who was killed when trying to prevent a terrorist vehicle laden with explosives from crashing into the UN camp on May 31, 2016.
First Sergeant Shen Liangliang was posthumously conferred First Class Merit by the Chinese military and the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal by the UN. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Repbulic of China, he was conferred the national honorary title of People's Hero.
