Former soldier connects martyrs' history

During a visit to a flea market in 1996, he found several files including the registration forms of 84 martyrs who died in the Taiyuan Campaign from Oct 5, 1948 to April 24, 1949.

"As a veteran who experienced the war, I knew the materials were really important and precious for those martyrs and their relatives," he said. "So I bought them."

The merchant saw Wang's eager interest and asked 3,000 yuan ($470) for the material.
