Chinese top warplane manufacturers make Beijing Winter Olympic mascots with advanced technologies

BEIJING, Feb. 22 -- During the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, the mascot Bing Dwen Dwen, chubby and charmingly naïve, has gone viral among fans of the Games. To present the best wishes to the Games, the manufacturers of China's top warplanes have created a batch of high-tech Bing Dwen Dwen using advanced aviation technologies.

The staff of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) Chengdu Aircraft Industrial Group (CAIG), manufacturer of stealth fighter aircraft J-20, used the same technologies applied on the J-20 to produce a special batch of Bing Dwen Dwens.

The AVIC Xi’an Aircraft Industry Group, the manufacturer of Y-20, made the mascot Bing Dwen Dwen by additive manufacturing (AV) technology, which can create 3D prints layer by layer.

The AVIC Harbin Aircraft Industry Group, manufacturer of China's Z-20 helicopters, made Bing Dwen Dwen by using aviation sheet metal.

The AVIC Shenyang Aircraft Company, manufacturer of aircraft FC-31, made Bing Dwen Dwen via computer numerical control (CNC) machining. Wang Gang, a technician of the Shenyang Aircraft Company of AVIC, is one of the top experts in the field of CNC machining. To make the aluminum alloy Bing Dwen Dwen, Wang Gang and his team members used the advanced CNC milling equipment with tiny cuttings.
