BEIJING, Feb. 17 -- China's military recruitment for the first half of 2022 kicked off on February 15. The recruitment work this year mainly targets college students and graduates, and priority shall be given to students of science and engineering and those with skills needed for combat readiness. Currently, medical examination prior to enlisting is ongoing around the country.
Over 90 recruitment physical examination centers in Zhejiang province opened on February 15 where the recruit candidates shall receive twice physical examinations. At present, the number of young people signed up for the recruitment in Zhejiang has reached 110,000, and 55,000 of which are undergraduates or graduates from higher learning institutions. In Jilin province, 139 recruitment physical examination centers have performed examination for over 10,000 candidates.
In Chengde city of north China's Hebei province, to increase the proportion of college students in recruits, the military recruiting departments have set up recruiting service centers in universities and colleges in Chengde to provide one-stop service for students signing up for military service. A series of procedures can be done at the service center, including retaining student record, tuition compensation and resuming education and changing major after fulfilling military service. According to Liu Jinlu, chief of the mobilization section of the Chengde Military Sub-command under the PLA Hebei Provincial Military Command, so far, a total of 3,860 undergraduates and 1,520 graduates from universities and colleges in Chengde have signed up for enlistment, marking a year-on-year increase of 47% and 51% respectively.
In Jinzhou, Liaoning province, to encourage the highly-educated young men to join the army, a preferential policy for veterans has been established for years. According to this policy, 100 jobs in the city's public institutions will be specially offered each year for veterans who have completed both full-time college education and two-year military service.
