NEW DELHI, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Indian army established a quantum laboratory in the central state of Madhya Pradesh to boost training and research with the support of the National Security Council Secretariat, the defense ministry said Wednesday.

The quantum laboratory, set up at the Military College of Telecommunication and Engineering, Mhow in Indore district, would lead research to help the Indian army leapfrog into next-generation communication, and transform the current system of cryptography to post-quantum cryptography, officials said.

"Indian army is making steady, yet significant strides in the field of emerging technology domains," said Chief of Army Staff Gen. Manoj Mukund Naravane.

The ministry said the army has also established an Artificial Intelligence center at the same institution.
