A joint Russian-Chinese strategic exercise Zapad/Interaction-2021 will be held in mid-August

In mid-August, the joint Russian-Chinese operational and strategic exercise Zapad/Interaction-2021 will be held on the territory of the People's Republic of China. From the Russian side, units of one of the formations of the Eastern Military District (EMD) will take part in it.

The drawing of practical actions of the troops (forces) of the military contingents of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China will take place at the Qingtongxia training ground of the People's Liberation Army of China, located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous region. It is planned to use combat aircraft, artillery and armored vehicles in the exercise.

The event will be managed jointly. For this purpose, a joint command body will be formed, comprehensive planning will be organized, issues of management, control of the situation, organization of intelligence, notification, fire destruction of the enemy and information security will be coordinated.

The objectives of the exercise are to strengthen Russian-Chinese relations, comprehensive partnership, and strategic cooperation. It is aimed at demonstrating the determination and ability of the two countries to fight terrorism and jointly protect peace and stability in the region.

The total number of troops (forces) taking part in the joint exercise will be about 10 thousand people.

On the eve of a working meeting in Dushanbe, the Head of the Chinese military department, Colonel-General Wei Fenghe, invited the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, to come to the active phase of joint exercises that will be held on the territory of China in August 2021.
