Beijing, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) Military vessels from China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand are jointly patrolling the Mekong River today, with the aim of fighting drug trafficking and stepping up security in that region.

This is the 88th Mekong River joint patrol carried out by these four nations since 2011. The mission started at the Guanlei port, in the southwest province of Yunnan.

During present military maneuvers, the naval forces will conduct random inspections of ships from the so-called Golden Triangle, that is, the region between the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Durango.

According to official data, part of the drugs entering China stem from this and other nations.

The Mekong River is the 12th longest worldwide and seventh longest regionally.
