Afghan fighting leaves 17 militants dead in eastern Wardak province

MAIDAN SHAHR, Afghanistan, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Up to 17 militants were killed and 11 others injuries as a clash flared up in Chak district of the eastern Wardak province, said an army statement on Sunday.

The clash, according to the statement, flared up in Lawala and Ali Khil areas of Chak district on Saturday and lasted for a few hours, leaving 17 insurgents killed and 11 others injured.

The statement didn't say if there were casualties on security personnel. However, it stated that the security forces would continue to chase militants elsewhere in the restive province to ensure lasting peace there.

Taliban militnats haven't commented.
