Amid heavy tensions between the two nuclear neighbours, India and Pakistan will participate in the joint anti-terrorism exercise to be this year along with other states of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

The announcement of the joint exercise ‘Sary-Arka-Antiterror 2019’ was announced during the 34th meeting of the SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) council held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, PTI reported through Xinhua news agency.

The SCO comprises Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan. India and Pakistan were admitted into the bloc in 2017 in which China plays a crucial role.

Last year, the exercise had taken place and video of foreign forces along with both India and Pakistan were seen dancing on Punjabi songs and the video had gone viral.

India and Pakistan relations are going through tough times post the Pulwama terrorist attack last month in which 44 CRPF soldiers had martyred. India launched a pre-emptive non-military strike using IAF jets and destroyed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) centre in Pakistan. In response, Pakistan launched an offensive against India and an air skirmish between the two countries took place on February 27.
