Russian official urges for boosting military, security cooperation with Egypt

CAIRO, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev called here on Tuesday for fostering the security and military cooperation with Egypt, official news agency MENA reported.

During his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Patrushev stressed his country's keenness to deepen fruitful and strong ties with Egypt, presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said.

He stressed the importance of working on promoting the military cooperation in light of the joint cooperation between the two countries, especially with regard to combating terrorism and extremist thoughts.

He hailed the Egyptian efforts in uprooting terrorism, noting the importance for mobilizing endeavors for pushing the means for facing that crossing-border challenge at the international level.

President al-Sisi lauded Russia's contribution to the establishment of Dabaa nuclear station, the High Dam and the planned Russian industrial zone in Port Said, Radi added.

The meeting also took up the recent developments in the region especially the crises of Syria and Libya.

The two sides underlined the necessity of reaching solutions to these crises in a way that preserves the unity of these countries, according to the spokesman.
