PHNOM PENH, Jan 27 (ChinaMil) -- The 13th medical expert team of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to Cambodia was awarded the "Peace Knight Medal" by the Cambodian Defense Ministry in Phnom Penh on Sunday morning, in recognition of their contributions to the discipline construction and the improvement of the medical level of the Preah KetMealea Hospital as well as the development of medical and health services in Cambodia.

The medals and certificates of honor were conferred on the five members of the Chinese medical expert team by the deputy director of the General Administration of Logistics and Finance of the Cambodian Defense Ministry at the ceremony held on the same day.

In his speech, the deputy director said that Chinese medical experts have provided technical guidance and help to Cambodian doctors in such aspects as medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, teleconsultation and network information construction, and have further enhanced the discipline construction and medical level of the Preah KetMealea Hospital. He hoped that the Chinese and Cambodian militaries can further strengthen friendly cooperation in the future.

Li Ningya, military attaché of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, said that medical assistance is an important part of the exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and Cambodian militaries, playing an important role in China's assistance to Cambodia's health and people's livelihood. The Chinese medical expert team has promoted a series of new methods and technologies, and carried out a wealth of academic lectures. All these have significantly improved the clinical diagnosis and treatment level of the Preah KetMealea Hospital.

Lieutenant General Ly Sovan, director of the Preah KetMealea Hospital, said that under the guidance of Chinese medical experts, the medical level of the hospital has improved significantly. Many patients no longer had to go abroad for medical treatment and spoke highly of the Chinese medical experts, he added.

"We are very honored to be able to contribute to the friendship between China and Cambodia," said Fan Li, head of the Chinese medical expert team.
