Chinese defense minister meets Singaporean guest in Beijing

BEIJING, Jan. 21 (ChinaMil) -- Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister General Wei Fenghe met with Chan Yeng Kit, the visiting Permanent Secretary of the Singaporean Ministry of Defense in Beijing on the morning of January18, 2019. Mr. Chan was in Beijing to attend the 7th Defense Policy Dialogue between the defense ministries of China and Singapore.
 

Gen. Wei Fenghe said that, under the concern and guidance of the Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Singaporean Prime Minister Lee HsienLoong, China-Singapore relations have kept pace with the times and have continued to deepen, becoming a model for cooperation and win-win between China and neighboring countries.

China attaches great importance to Singapore’s important role in international and regional affairs. The Chinese military is willing to work with Singapore Armed Forces to earnestly implement the consensus of the two leaders, strengthen high-level exchanges and strategic communication, deepen pragmatic cooperation and multilateral cooperation, expand cooperation areas and methods, and make positive contributions to promoting the comprehensive and in-depth development of China-Singapore relations, establishing a closer China-ASEAN community of shared future as well as maintaining regional peace and stability, said Wei.

Mr. Chan said that Singapore attaches great importance to the development of the relations between the two countries and the two militaries. Singapore is willing to work with China to deepen defense exchanges and expand cooperation, enhance high-level exchanges, strengthen the establishment of dialogue mechanisms, enhance strategic mutual trust, and work together to maintain regional security and stability.

Major General Shao Yuanming, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff Department of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC) and Stanley LohKa Leung, Singapore’s Ambassador to China, also attended the meeting.
