BEIRUT, Oct. 8 (ChinaMil) -- The 17th Chinese peacekeeping force to Lebanon who was carrying out international peacekeeping missions in Lebanon conducted a joint training exercise of mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and war case study activity with the peacekeeping forces from Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Austria, Spain, Cambodia and other countries on the morning of September 29, local time.

The aim of this training was to share experience in mine clearance and EOD, enhance the friendship between Chinese and foreign peacekeeping forces, and strengthen the multinational cooperation in Lebanon so as to better accomplish peacekeeping missions. It was the first time that Chinese peacekeepers had jointly organized such training and war case study with the foreign militaries since its first deployment to Lebanon in 2006.

Following the relevant requirements of the new memorandum of understanding and in view of the security situation and work characteristics faced in current missions, the 17th Chinese peacekeeping force to Lebanon jointly organized the training with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Western Sector at an invitation from the Commander of the UNIFIL Western Sector.

On Sept.29, the 17th Chinese peacekeeping force sent peacekeepers of the mine-sweeping team to participate in the activity that mainly included three parts of equipment display, joint training and war case study.

During the equipment display, Chinese peacekeepers demonstrated their mine-sweeping and EOD equipment used in the mission area to the foreign peacekeepers, and also introduced their achievements made in Southern Lebanon in recent years.

At the same time, Chinese peacekeepers observed the introduction of the detection and EOD equipment by foreign peacekeeping forces from Italy, Spain, Hungary, Austria, Croatia, etc., and conducted an in-depth discussion focused on the disposal procedures and safety measures of unexploded ordnance.

The joint training of mine clearance and EOD is mainly divided into three steps: detection, explosive disposal, and destruction. After the joint training, the participated peacekeepers also discussed and analyzed the classic mine-sweeping battle cases and global war cases at the Chinese peacekeeping force’s barrack.
