JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN, Aug. 16 (ChinaMil) -- Large-scale armed exchange blows broke out among refugees near the UN peacekeeping mission area in Juba, South Sudan on August 14.
The fourth Chinese peacekeeping infantry battalion to South Sudan responded promptly and acted in concert with other peacekeeping forces to control the situation in order to protect the life and property safety of local UN peacekeepers and refugees.
Around 10:20 a.m., refugees from Camp No.1 broke through the west gate guarded by the Nepalese riot squad and local police, then joined some 80 refugees from Camp No. 3 on the road west of the UN House. They even attacked the UN patrol vehicles.
The Chinese peacekeeping infantry battalion immediately sent two emergency platoons to conduct blockade and control action together with the Ethiopian peacekeeping troops, trying to restore order and bring the situation under control.
