KABUL, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan army personnel found 73 improvised bombs and landmines within the last 24 hours, the country's Defense Ministry said Thursday.

"Afghan National Army (ANA) explosive-ordnance disposal teams recovered 73 rounds of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and landmine elsewhere since early Wednesday. They safely defused or destroyed the explosives over the period," the ministry said in a statement.

Taliban militants and Islamic State fighters have been using IEDs to make roadside bombs and landmines for targeting security forces, but the lethal home-made weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.

The national army remains committed to secure communities and works diligently to provide security for Afghans across the country, the ministry noted.
