The militaries of both China and the U.S. should adhere to the principles of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, and promote the development of ties between both nations, a senior Chinese military official said here Saturday.

He Lei, vice president of the Academy of Military Science of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, made the remarks on the sidelines of the ongoing 17th Asia Security Summit, also known as the Shangari-la Dialogue. He is also the head of the Chinese delegation to the dialogue, which opened in Singapore on Friday and runs through Sunday.

As the largest developing country and the largest developed country respectively as well as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and the United States shoulder important responsibilities in maintaining regional and global peace, He said.

The Chinese government and the Chinese people cherish and attach great importance to Sino-U.S. ties, as the two nations share plenty of common interests, he added.

Thanks to the efforts by leaders of both countries, bilateral ties continue to develop in a friendly manner, said the Chinese military official, including relations between both militaries.

China hopes that both countries and militaries act in a manner that preserves global stability and further develops ties, He said.

The Shangri-La Dialogue has been held annually since 2002 in Singapore, gathering military officials, diplomats and experts to discuss regional security challenges and prospects for cooperation.
