ISLAMABAD, May 21 (ChinaMil) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met with the visiting Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC) General Zhang Youxia at the Prime Minister's office on May 17.
Zhang first conveyed the cordial greetings and good wishes to Abbasi from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang.
Abbasi expressed his thanks and said that Pakistan and China have been keeping long-term close relations and conducted extensive in-depth cooperation in the defense area, Pakistan has been committed to combating terrorism and firmly upholds the one-china policy.
Pakistan is willing to strengthen strategic cooperation and practical exchange in all areas with China to ensure the smooth advancement of construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, making contributions to regional development and prosperity, the Prime Minister told his Chinese guests.
Gen. Zhang said that President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to China-Pakistan relations and works together with Pakistani leaders to push forward the all-weather strategic partnership of cooperation between the two countries, China thanks Pakistan for its staunch support in issues concerning China's core interests.
The Chinese and Pakistani militaries are expected to implement the important consensuses reached by leaders of the two countries, strengthen strategic communication and deepen practical cooperation, elevate all-round defense relations in the new historical period, so as to protect the common interests of the two countries and maintain peace and stability of the region and the world at large, Gen. Zhang said.
During his Pakistan visit, Gen. Zhang also called on Sadiq Sanjrani, acting president and chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, and met with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, making in-depth exchange of views on regional security situation and military-to-military cooperation in areas of anti-terrorism, joint training exercise and equipment technologies.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing, Major General Shao Yuanming, deputy chief of the Joint Staff Department of the CMC were present at the above meetings.
