China, Uzbekistan vow to strengthen military cooperation

BEIJING, April 23 (ChinaMil) -- Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe, met with the visiting Minister of Defense of Uzbekistan Abdusalom Azizov in Beijing on April 21.

Wei said that under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China with Comrade Xi Jinping as its core, China will continue to deepen reform, expand opening-up areas, achieve greater development, and actively promote the building of a community of shared future for mankind.

With the guidance of the heads of state of the two countries, China and Uzbekistan should conduct close cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative to promote the healthy development of the China-Uzbekistan comprehensive strategic partnership, said Wei.

The armed forces of the two countries have conducted pragmatic cooperation in areas of high-level contacts, personnel training and military technologies, Wei said.

The two militaries should earnestly implement the consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries and continuously upgrade the cooperation level to effectively safeguard common interests of the two countries and regional peace and stability, Wei said.

Under the guidance of Xi Jinping thought on strengthening the armed forces, the Chinese armed forces is implementing in an all-round way the strategy of building a strong army through reform and has made historic achievements, Wei added. He suggested the two sides enhance communications on military reform and learn from each other’s experience.

Azizov said that the heads of state of Uzbekistan and China held important talks last year and pointed out directions for the development of state and military relations between the two countries, Uzbekistan is willing to strengthen pragmatic cooperation with China in various fields and push forward relations between the two countries and their military-to-military relations to make further progress.

Before their meeting, Wei held a welcome ceremony for Azizov and accompanied him to review the guard of honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).
