Chinese peacekeepers invited to local college commencement in S. Sudan

WAU, South Sudan, April 11 (ChinaMil) -- Upon invitation of the Don Bosco Technical Institute, commander of the 8th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to South Sudan (Wau) and representatives of the Chinese engineers attended the commencement ceremony of the institute here on April 6.

In his speech, the dean of the Don Bosco Technical Institute thanked the Chinese peacekeeping engineers for their contributions to the institute in infrastructure construction and material assistance. "Chinese engineers are the most cordial partners of the people of South Sudan", he said.

"For a long time, Chinese engineers have given full play to their professional qualities to build roads and provide assistance to schools in South Sudan, I wish the friendship between South Sudan and China will last forever," he said.

Lieut. Col. Sun Shijian, commander of the 8th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to South Sudan (Wau), presented graduation certificates to student representatives of the institute.

Sun encouraged graduates to use their knowledge and skills to build a peaceful and beautiful home. "The Chinese peacekeeping forces will as always contribute to the development of South Sudan and the cause of world peace," said Sun.

As the only vocational and technical college in Wau city, the Don Bosco Technical Institute trains professionals majoring in wood working, electricity, masonry, automobile services, welding, printing, computer science, and so on.

The Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachments have been providing assistance to the institute for years including transporting construction materials, donating school supplies and sports facilities, etc., the Chinese engineers have established a profound friendship with the teachers and students of the institute.

The 8th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment was deployed in the mission area in Wau at the end of September 2017. The detachment is mainly responsible for the construction of roads, bridges, airports in South Sudan, and the construction and maintenance of barracks and bunkers, as well as providing engineering support for the peacekeeping forces of the Sector West of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
