Belarusian President meets visiting Chinese defense chief

MINSK, April 8 (ChinaMil) -- Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko met here with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister General Wei Fenghe on Friday morning.

Lukashenko expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Chinese President Xi Jinping on his re-election as the President of the People's Republic of China and Chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC). He also asked Wei to convey his sincere greetings to his Chinese counterpart and said he believes that China will make greater achievements under President Xi’s leadership.

Belarus is always China's most sincere partner and reliable friend, said Lukashenko, adding that Belarus firmly supports the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi and is willing to work with China to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and maintain regional security and stability.

General Wei first conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings to his Belarusian counterpart. Wei said that under the meticulous cultivation of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belarusian President Lukashenko, the China-Belarus comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual trust and win-win cooperation is continuously deepening and developing .

China is willing to work with Belarus to implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries and make joint efforts to raise bilateral military cooperation to a new level, said General Wei. .

The Chinese defense chief also held official talks on Friday morning with his Belarusian counterpart Lieutenant General Andrei Ravkov, and reviewed the guard of honor of the Belarusian armed forces.
