BEIRUT, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The Lebanese Presidential Guard concluded Thursday a six-week intermediate program organized by the Italian Bilateral Military Mission in Lebanon (MIBIL) with a closing ceremony at the Lebanese Army barracks in Hammana, some 26 km east of capital Beirut.

In a speech at the closing ceremony, Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Massimo Marotti said "By supporting the Lebanese security institutions, we support at the same time the freedom and pluralism that make Lebanon a model and a beacon throughout the whole region and an indispensable partner."

MIBIL is part of the UN International Support Group for Lebanon and was installed in order to coordinate and develop training activities for the Lebanese Army in Lebanon and Italy.

In 2018, the Italian Armed Forces are set to conduct 53 training programs in total within the framework of MIBIL, the Daily Star reported on its website.

The Presidential Guard Brigade aims to provide effective protection to the president and his family, as well as to official guests to Lebanon. The brigade had already taken part in previous MIBIL training programs.
