In a live-fire exercise or LFX, which is part of the Cambodian-Chinese joint military exercise Golden Dragon 2018, a helicopter deploys soldiers to rescue hostages. This took place in Kampong Speu’s Samroang Tong district on March29, at the end of the two-week exercise.

The exercise had helicopters and armoured personnel carriers simulate a military intervention involving hostages. To make the scenario more realistic, the tests of weapons and weapon systems may require the limited use of real ammunition.

The exercise started March 17, a date chosen to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and China. The Golden Dragon is a dry-run of the required response to an outside threat to the security and population of the Kingdom.

It aims to strengthen the alliance of both military forces in combating terrorism; maintain stability; assist in disaster relief; and, in a general sense, safeguard peace and security nationally and globally.

The Cambodia Defense Minister General Tea Banh and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Xiong Bo were at the site to witness the exercise and its command structure.
