Chinese peacekeeping helicopters complete UNAMID peacekeepers transport task

KHARTOUM, March. 6 (ChinaMil) -- China's first peacekeeping helicopter detachment successfully completed on March 4 the transport of soldiers and materials of the Senegalese peacekeeping infantry battalion affiliated to theSector North of theAfrican Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur(UNAMID).

According to the mission area adjustment plan of the UNAMID, the Senegalese peacekeeping infantry battalion will be deployed to a new mission area, and the peacekeeping force rotation should be completed within one month. Since the transport task started on February 8, the Chinese helicopter detachment has dispatched three transport helicopters flying nearly 150 hours, transporting about 40 tons of materials and 800 Senegalese peacekeepers in total.

China's first peacekeeping helicopter detachmentconsists of a flying company, a maintenance company and a support company with140 peacekeepers and 4 Mi-171 multi-purpose helicopters from an aviation brigade under the PLA Army's 81st Combined Corps. The main tasks of the detachment include air patrol, battlefield reconnaissance, and transport of materials and personnel.
