Cambodia and China will hold joint military exercises in March to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomat relations between the two countries.

General Ith Sarath, the deputy commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), said in a statement obtained by Khmer Times on Thursday that the joint military exercise will be held in March at Kampong Speu province’s Phnom Sruoch district to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomat relations.

“The topic of the joint military exercise between RCAF officials and Chinese military officials is a mission against terrorism and humanitarian affairs of both Cambodia- China,” Mr Sarath said.

For the joint military exercise, Cambodia will have 280 personnel and China 190, he said.

General Chhum Sucheat, the spokesman for the National Defense Ministry, told Khmer Times that the reason Cambodia and China will hold the joint military exercises is to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomat relations.

He added that some critics claimed that Cambodia would only hold joint military exercises with China and they asked why Cambodia was not holding military exercises with the US, Australia and other countries.

“We deny those accusations that Cambodia did not hold joint military exercises with America and Australia,” General Sucheat said, adding that Cambodia would hold military exercises with other countries.
