HONG KONG, Dec. 14 (ChinaMil) -- The Chinese PLA Hong Kong Garrison sent a frigate and a helicopter to participate in the air crash search-and-rescue drill at sea held on Dec. 12.
The drill, code-named "sarex2017", was the 13th air crash search-and-rescue drill organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative region (SAR) government, and the PLA Hong Kong Garrison has participated in all the 13 drills upon invitation of the Hong Kong SAR government.
The drill simulated the situation of a Bombardier CS300 aircraft taking off from Hong Kong and encountering engine troubles at about 50 nautical miles east of the Hong Kong International Airport, and soon disappearing from the radar display.
The drill officially started at 9:19 a.m., as soon as receiving the request for search-and-rescue assistance, the PLA Hong Kong Garrison dispatched a frigate and a helicopter to the target sea area.
The frigate and the helicopter arrived at the target sea area at 11:15 a.m. and carried out sea-air coordinated search and rescue immediately.
In the meantime, rescue forces from China Rescue and Salvage (CRS) of the Ministry of Transport and Hong Kong SAR's flight service also carried out search and rescue operations in their respective mission areas.
Thanks to the close coordination of all parties, the simulated wreckage was discovered and salvaged about half an hour later, putting a successful end to the drill.
