ALGIERS, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Algerian counterterrorism troops on Wednesday killed a "dangerous" armed militant in the eastern province of Jijel, said a statement of Defense Ministry.
The source notes that a wide-scale operation was launched by army troops "after efficient exploitation of tips," as they set an ambush to a dangerous terrorist who was shot dead in the locality of Bouzeghbane in the upper woods of Jijel.
A Kalashnikov submachine gun and ammunition were recovered in this quality operation, which is the second of its kind in less than a week in Jijel.
The terrorist was identified as B. Redouan, alias Abu Dher, who joined terrorist camps in 1997, specified the source.
Located in a region plagued by unprecedented security and political instability, Algeria faces ongoing terrorist threats, experts say.
A few militants affiliated to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and recently established Daesh affiliate groups are still taking refuge in the dense woods in the north, and remote desert areas near the troubled Libya and Mali.
