Commanders of Chinese and EU naval escort forces vow to cement escort cooperation

GULF OF ADEN, March 10 (ChinaMil) -- At the invitation of Spanish Navy Rear Admiral Rafael Fernández-Pintado Muñoz-Rojas, who is commander of the EU Combined Task Force 465 (CTF-465), Rear Admiral Zhao Jicheng, commander of the 25th Chinese naval escort taskforce, and his entourage boarded the Spanish amphibious transport dock landing ship Galicia, flagship of the EU CTF-465 on March 7, local time for visit.

During the meeting between the commanding officers of the two naval escort task forces, the two sides made self-introduction respectively on such information as force structure, operation mode and international cooperation; had exchange of views on current security situation in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast, and cooperation on information-sharing and providing escort for ships of the World Food Programme (WFP).

Rear Admiral Zhao Jicheng said that the Chinese naval escort taskforce is willing to maintain communication and strengthen pragmatic exchange and cooperation with naval escort ships from various countries, including the EU CTF-465, under the framework of relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions.

Rear Admiral Fernández-Pintado hoped that two sides can further upgrade the exchange and cooperation level and maintain the established good relations and pragmatic cooperation to jointly safeguard the maritime security in the escorted waters.

After the meeting, Zhao Jicheng and his party, accompanied by ernández-Pintado, toured the Spanish amphibious transport dock landing ship Galicia.
