KIZILSU KIRGHIZ, September 12 (ChinaMil) -- The air force of the PLA Western Theater Command and some troops of the PLA Xinjiang Military Command hosted a mobilization ceremony for the upcoming Peace Mission-2016 joint anti-terror military exercise at a training base in Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on September 11.

According to the cooperation plan for 2016—2017 for the defense ministries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, armed forces of the member states will conduct Peace Mission-2016 joint anti-terror military exercise at a training center in the Issyk-Kul Region of Kyrgyzstan from September 15 to 21.

China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan will send army and air force troops to the drill. A total of 1,100 troops will participate in the joint exercise and China will send about 270 troops.

The background of the exercise is a regional crisis triggered by international terrorism. The drill, divided into three stages including strategic consultation, battle preparation and combat implementation, aims to test the preparation and implementation of joint action against terrorism in mountain areas.
