Chinese troops arrive in Thailand for multinational military exercise

BEIJING, Sept. 2 (ChinaMil) -- Chinese troops to participate in the 2nd Humanitarian Assistance, Disaster Relief & Military Medicine Joint Exercise under the mechanism of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus) arrived in Thailand on Thursday by taking the amphibious dock ship Changbaishan (Hull No. 989) and a Y-9 transport aircraft.

The 120 Chinese servicepersons to participate in the joint exercise consist of engineers, medical workers, commanding staff officers, and special operations soldiers, who are mainly from the Chinese PLA Southern Theater Command. Together with them are two Mi-171 helicopters and the amphibious dock ship Changbaishan with a shipboard Z-8 helicopter.

The joint exercise is scheduled to be held in Thailand’s Bangkok and Chonburi province as well as waters off its coast respectively from Sept 1 to 11.

Nearly 1,200 military personnel from 18 member countries of the ADMM-Plus, including China, Russia, the US and ASEAN countries, will participate in the exercise. They will conduct joint drills of engineering rescue, medical assistance, air transportation, and maritime search and rescue.
