PLA Daily 2003-12-30
GUANGZHOU, Dec. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- A joint team
of experts from China's Health Ministry and the World Health Organization
(WHO) arrived in Guangzhou, capital of the southern Guangdong
Province, Monday.
Wang Zhiqiong, deputy-director of the Guangdong provincial
health bureau said the joint team consisted of three WHO experts,
three Chinese experts and an interpreter.
Five members of the team arrived in Guangzhou Monday afternoon
from Beijing. One WHO expert would arrive later Monday from Hong
Kong and one Chinese expert was from a Guangzhou health institution.
"The experts plan to visit the suspected SARS patient Tuesday
morning and then hold a press briefing," said Wang, adding that
the team would stay in Guangdong for five days.
Wang said the experts were mainly specialists in epidemiology
and infection control and they would review the work on the suspected
SARS case, including the epidemiological investigation, clinical
diagnosis and hospital infection control.
The Health Ministry reported on Dec. 27 that a 32-old-man was
confirmed as a suspected SARS case in Guangzhou. The ministry
said here Monday that the man had a normal temperature for five
days and was in a stable condition. None of the 42 people quarantined
after having close contact with him has shown symptoms of the
disease.
