A PLA academic seminar on military thinking was held in Beijing on Dec. 18 to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Mao Zedong's birthday. Xu Caihou, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPC, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department, stressed at the seminar that the PLA should hold high the great banners of Mao Zedong thought, Deng Xiaoping theory and the important thought of "Three Represents", carry forward and develop the good traditions and style of work of the CPC and the PLA, speed up the military changes with Chinese characteristics, and bring the national defense and army building to a new stage of development.

　　Xu Caihou said that Mao Zedong's military thinking is a brilliant part of the Mao Zedong thought. His military thinking revealed completely the basic laws of Chinese revolutionary wars and greatly enriched the treasurehouse of the military thought of Marxism, and established itself as an eternal monument in the history of human military thought. No matter how the external conditions of national defense and army building may change and no matter how war forms and fighting methods may develope, Mao Zedong's military thinking would be forever the basic principles and guidelines for national defense and army building.

　　Xu Caihou reiterated that the important thought of "Three Represents" is not only a scientific system in the same strain as Mao Zedong thought and Deng Xiaoping theory, but also the one that keeps up with the times. Jiang Zemin's thinking on national defense and army building is a key component of the important thought of "Three Represents". In this new era, sticking to Jiang Zemin's thinking on national defense and army building is equal to sticking to Mao Zedong's military thinking and Deng Xiaoping's thinking on army building in the new era. We must firm the guiding position of the important thought of "Three Represents" for army building; further heighten our consciousness and firm belief in using Jiang Zemin's thinking on national defense and army building; study, grasp completely and accurately the essential views, scientific system and nature of Jiang Zemin's thinking on national defense and army building; implement his thinking thoroughly in military, political, logistics and armaments fields; and use the scientific world view and methodology that is based on his thinking to speed up national defense and army building from a higher starting point.
