marks 110th anniversary of late Chairman Mao's birth

BEIJING, Dec. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Central Committee
of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held a seminar
at the Great Hall of the People Friday, marking
the 110th anniversary of the birth of late Chairman
Mao Zedong.
Chinese
President Hu Jintao attended the seminar. Prior to the
event, Hu, also general secretary of the CPC Central
Committee, visited the mausoleum of Mao in central Beijing.
Born
on Dec. 26, 1893, Mao founded the CPC, the Chinese People's
Liberation Army, and the People's Republic of China.
He died on Sept. 9, 1976.
A
number of activities have been launched or planned to
commemorate Mao across the country.
An
official concert is scheduled to be held Friday evening
at the Great Hall of the People in honor of the late
leader.
Feng
Yuan, director of the Arts Department of the Ministry
of Culture, said Mao devoted his life to his motherland
and people, and all Chinese remember his great contribution
to the country. |
