The First Non-traditional Security Forum of the Armed Forces of the ASEAN,
China, Japan and the ROK sponsored by the Ministry of National Defense of the
People's Republic of China opened on the morning of June 9 in the Shijiazhuang
Army Command College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. This forum is the
first non-traditional security forum among the armed forces within East Asia.
The 3-day-long forum aims to intensify the study on non-traditional
security issues, enhance mutual trust, expand common consensus and give an
impetus to the armed forces of the ASEAN, China, Japan and the ROK in coping
with the challenge of non-traditional security threat. During the forum, 33
representatives from the ASEAN, China, Japan and the ROK will conduct extensive
and in-depth exchanges on the basic understanding of the non-traditional
security issue, the cooperation and its ways for the armed forces of the ASEAN,
China, Japan and the ROK in coping with the non-traditional security threats and
view such drill subjects as field first aid, security and guard of the Armed
Police Force and anti-terrorism. The consensus reached by the attending
representatives will be released in the form of "forum summary".
