BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- China welcomed the signing of a peace plan by
Georgia and Russia over the conflicts in South Ossetia and the pull-out of
military from the area, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
Spokesman Qin Gang made the remarks at a regular press conference when
responding to a reporter's question.
Qin said China hoped the ceasefire would help all parties concerned to
peacefully resolve the conflicts through dialogues and finally find a proper
solution.
He added that the current priority was to ensure peace and stability in the
area and the tranquility of the people there.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev last Saturday signed a French-brokered
peace plan for settling the conflict between Georgia and its breakaway region of
South Ossetia, while Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili had signed the peace
plan last Friday.
