The General Political Department (GPD) of the PLA sent telegrams respectively to the Chinese Sports Delegation, the August 1 Sports Group and the Political Department of the Nanjing Military Area Command on August 17 to warmly congratulate Xiao Qin, a PLA athlete, on pocketing a gold medal in the Men's Pommel Horse Final, and Li Dan on winning the championship in the Men's Badminton Singles Final in the 29th Olympic Games.

　　The congratulation telegrams said that the PLA athletes Xiao Qin and Lin Dan won honors for the country and the PLA and inspired all the officers and men of the PLA by defeating the other topnotch athletes in the fierce competitions and capturing gold medals in gymnastics and badminton event respectively. It expressed the wish that the other PLA athletes should, under the leadership of the Chinese Sports Delegation, go on carrying forward the fearless and valiant fighting spirit, take Xiao Qin and Lin Dan as examples, go all out as a team, fight courageously in the vanguard, make new outstanding achievements in the competition venues, win honors for the country, do credit to the Olympics, and add luster to the military banner with their actual deeds!

　　The telegrams heartily wished the Chinese Sports Delegation double successes in both sport competition and spiritual civilization in the Beijing Olympic Games.
