KABUL, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Conflicts in Afghanistan have left over two dozen insurgents dead over the past two days, officials said Saturday.

　　Twenty three rebels were killed in Nadali district of the troubled Helmand province as they raided police checkpoints Friday and police encountered, forcing militants to flee, interior ministry said in a press release.

　　Thirteen more militants were injured in the gun battle lasted for several hours.

　　There were no casualties on police, the press release further stressed.

　　Militants who have intensified their activities over the past months in a similar attack targeted police checkpoint in Shiwak district of the eastern Paktia province late Friday night, wounding two policemen while themselves fled the area after leaving five bodies behind, interior ministry said in separate statement.

　　Taliban militants have yet to make comment.

　　Earlier, the U.S.-led Coalition said in a statement that three dozen insurgents had been killed over the past couple of days in Afghanistan's southern region.

　　Conflicts and Taliban-linked militancy have left more than 2,500 people including insurgents, troops and civilians as well as aid workers dead since January this year in Afghanistan.
