Chen Bingde, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of general
staff of the PLA, met in Beijing on August 10 with President of the
International Military Sports Council (CISM) Gianni Gola and the heads of
delegations of the member states came to Beijing to take part in the activities
held in the CISM Village.
Chen Bingde noted that the Olympic Games is a magnificent international
sports meet. The Chinese people sincerely hope that the Olympics Games will
contribute to enhancing the mutual understanding and friendship in humanity as
well as further promoting the peace and tranquility all over the world. The
Chinese People's Liberation Army has all along been active in participating in
activities of the International Military Sports Council. The purpose of
establishing the CISM Village in Beijing is to convenience the officials of the
International Military Sports Council and delegations of the member states to
study and watch the Olympic Games in China, further intensify exchanges and
cooperation between the Chinese armed forces and that of various countries in
the field of military sports, and deepen the development of international
military sports.
Gola extended his appreciation and gratitude to China for its active and
positive roles played in the International Military Sports Council as well as
its efforts in reopening the CISM Village. He stated that the opening ceremony
of the Beijing Olympic Games was so brilliant and impressive that it not only
demonstrated China's long history and culture but also reflected the modern
scientific development.
Liu Zhenwu, deputy chief of general staff of the PLA, was present at the
meeting.
