The PLA and the Armed Police Force (APF) make the vital forces participating in, supporting and contributing to the Olympic Games, and likewise the "organization volunteers" who shoulder the special tasks and sacred missions among the large contingent in support of the Olympic Games. Acting in accordance with the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Military Commission and President Hu Jintao, the PLA and the Armed Police Force have been dynamically plunging into the Olympic support work including taking on the construction of key projects, personnel support, Olympic security and environmental beautification of the capital city, and have made vital phasic achievements.

　　A green Olympic is a commitment undertaken by Beijing to the world. The PLA and the Armed Police Force, especially the Beijing-based troops, act as the shock troops in fulfilling the missions of greening the Olympic stadiums and gymnasiums as well as the selected areas, and bringing under control the sandstorm sources in the outlying areas of Beijing. In recent years, the Beijing-based troops have been energetic in partaking in the work of greening and beautifying the Capital City by participating in the afforestation of more than 220 selected segments of the Chang'an Avenue and the Airport Expressway as well as 40-odd large parks like the Olympic Forest Park.

　　A scientific Olympic is a "shining point" of the Beijing Olympic Games. In April 2006, the General Armaments Department of the PLA assigned a technological cooperative and support team of 40-odd people in charge of the overall technological production in the operating center of the opening and closing ceremonies. On June 28, 2008, the main facilities built by the team on the ground and in the air space over the National Stadium---where the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games and the Paralympics will be held, passed the official check and acceptance.

　　The Olympic Games is not merely a magnificent sports meet but also a distinguished gathering that blends different civilizations and various cultures and arts into a unity. Among the production members of the Beijing Olympic Games and the Paralympics, a great number of directors, engineers and support staff come from the PLA.

　　In the run-up to the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, Jacques Rogge, chairman of the International Olympic Committee, stressed on many occasions that the security work of the games eclipsed the games itself in importance. According to Hu Changming, spokesman of the Ministry of National Defense, by following the international practice and the Chinese laws as well as China's arrangement of the Olympic security work, the PLA shoulders part of the security tasks for the Olympic Games, mainly involving security work in the air and at sea.

　　Honors of servicemen are always closely tied to that of their motherland. All the officers and men taking part in the work of supporting the Olympic have demonstrated with their actual deeds their qualities of "following the Party's order, serving the people and fighting valiantly and skillfully". As the opening ceremony draws near, we are of full confidence that all the officers and men will for sure fare well in fulfilling their missions.
