Sea-land-air joint security measures to protect Olympic sailing events

english.chinamil.com.cn 2008-08-07

An emergency sea-land-air coordinated joint exercise was held yesterday morning in Qingdao which verifies that it is quite safe for the Olympic sailing events.

At the Olympic sailing events security command headquarters, officers and officials from the Jinan Military Area Command, the North China Sea Fleet, and the air force of the Jinan Military Area Command, the frontier police force and related local departments, are coordinating their efforts to ensure the security of ground venues, sea areas and air spaces for the Olympics sailing events. They divide the sea areas for the sailing events into cordoning-off area, control area and early warning area, and deploy large number of security boats, patrol boats, naval combat ships and helicopters into several protective layers to carry out wide-scaled surveillance for the sailing events. At the same time, they are going to impose traffic control in competition sea areas over pleasure boats and other boats.

As security positions for sailing events are scattered to cover a large area, an army aviation regiment of the Jinan Military Area Command decided to set up three alternate landing sites along the 30km-long coastline to forward deployment of its helicopters so as to enable them to reach any destination within 30 minutes.

As for underwater security, the latest developed hi-tech underwater security system, plus surveillance patrol by naval vessels in surrounding areas would form an all-weather seamless underwater security protection network to guard against any possible underwater intrusion.

Regarding special situations in the air, they sets up several temporary restriction air spaces and control areas to intensify control over low-altitude, low-speed and small-sized flying objects. Besides, fighters of the air force, the army and navy aviation will be on standby around the clock, ready to deal with any threat from the air.
