Public lecture on Feng Lida's outstanding deeds held in Beijing

  The public lecture on the outstanding deeds of Comrade Feng Lida was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing yesterday, at which Xu Caihou, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), met with the members of the lecture team and extended cordial greetings to them on behalf of Chairman Hu Jintao and other CMC leaders. Xu Caihou pointed out that the PLA and the Armed Police Force should carry out extensive activities to learn from Comrade Feng Lida, take her as role model, carry forward the great spirit of earthquake rescue and relief and make unremitting efforts to promote better and faster development of the army building and create a new situation in the modernization drive of national defense and the army.

  Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department of the PLA, met with the members of the lecture team along with vice chairman Xu Caihou.

  Comrade Feng Lida is the eldest daughter of well-known patriotic general Feng Yuxiang. She returned to China from abroad to settle down in the country soon after the People's Republic of China was founded, and she was an expert who had made outstanding contributions to China. It was she who established the first disinfections research institute in the New China and the first immunology research center for the PLA. During her lifetime, she led medical teams to visit disaster-hit areas to give guidance to epidemic prevention work for 29 times, and donated accumulatively more than 3,000,000 yuan to people in disaster-hit areas, cancer patients, orphans and disabled children. She had wide connections with patriot personages at home and abroad. She made great efforts to promote people-to-people contact across the Taiwan Straits. She made positive contributions to the peaceful reunification of the motherland.

  Zhai Weihua, head of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, presided over the public lecture. Liu Yongzhi, deputy director of the General Political Department of the PLA, made a speech at the lecture. Some 800 medical workers in the capital and officers and men stationed in Beijing attended the lecture.
