The Symposium on Culture and Art Work of the PLA was held in Beijing on July 24. At the symposium, Xu Caihou, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, stressed that the PLA should continue to promote the development of its culture and art work with the military reform with Chinese characteristics and the practice of military struggle preparations as the main theme, so as to provide an ideological guarantee, a spiritual drive and cultural support for better and faster development of the army building and effective fulfillment of the historic mission of the PLA.

　　The symposium aims at summing up the remarkable achievements and successful experience in culture and art undertakings of the PLA in recent years and studying the new ways and measures for developing culture and art undertakings of the PLA as well as cultural development in grassroots units in an innovative spirit.

　　Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department of the PLA, attended the symposium.

　　At the symposium, 65 advanced individuals in culture and art work of the PLA were commended, 12 units exchanged their experience and six units carried out exchanges in written forms.

　　Deputy Directors of the PLA General Political Department Liu Yongzhi, Sun Zhongtong, Liu Zhenqi and Jia Ting'an, and assistant director Du Jincai of the PLA General Political Department also attended the symposium.
