China urges U.S. lawmakers to stop disrupting Olympics with rights
issues
BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Some U.S. lawmakers should stop disrupting the
Beijing Olympic Games by using human rights issues, a Chinese Foreign Ministry
spokesman said here Thursday.
Spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remarks responding to a question concerning
a resolution introduced on Wednesday in the U.S. House of Representatives,
which, citing the "Olympic traditions of freedom and openness", criticized China
on human rights issues.
China appreciates Nepal measures on Tibetan-related
issues
BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- China appreciated Nepal taking "necessary and
just measures" on Tibetan-related issues, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu
Jianchao said on Thursday.
Liu made the remarks when commenting on the recent detention of Tibetan
separatists in Nepal by the local police.
China to appoint first ASEAN ambassador
BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- China said here Thursday it plans to appoint
its first ambassador to the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) to
further strengthen bilateral strategic ties.
"This is a symbol of the in-depth development of China-ASEAN ties, which
also shows that the China-ASEAN strategic partnership is moving forward,"
Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao told a press conference.
Russian deputy PM to visit China for energy resources
negotiations
BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Russian Deputy Prime Minister IgorSechin will
visit China on July 26 and 27 to discuss the launch of an energy resources
negotiation mechanism, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao announced
on Thursday at a regular press conference.
"The significant mechanism will map out energy resources cooperation
between China and Russia and is valued by the leaders of both countries," Liu
said.
FM: China ready to enhance cooperation with Japan on disaster
reduction
BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday
China is ready to promote cooperation with Japan on disaster prevention and
reduction.
"It is very necessary for China and Japan, two seismically active
countries, to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in this aspect," said the
ministry's spokesman Liu Jianchao, "China holds a positive attitude toward
this," he added.
