From July 22-23, the 7th Plenary Session of the National Defense Mobilization Committee of the Guangzhou Military Area Command and the Symposium on Party's Leadership over the Armed Forces were held in Guangzhou. Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission, state councilor and minister of national defense, attended and addressed the meeting.

　　After listening to the reports on national defense mobilization work made by the Guangzhou Military Area Command and five provinces (autonomous regions) in central and south China, and watching national defense mobilization emergency command exercise of Guangzhou City, Liang Guanglie fully confirmed the achievements made by the Guangzhou War Theater in national defense mobilization. Liang Guanglie then pointed out that China has entered a crucial stage of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and a new military revolution is developing rapidly in the world while the PLA is in a new period of development with respect to its modernization drive and military struggle preparations. Under such circumstances, China's national defense mobilization is faced with important opportunities as well as many new challenges, setting higher demands upon national defense mobilization work.

　　Zhang Li, deputy chief of general staff of the PLA and secretary-general of the National Defense Mobilization Committee of the People's Republic of China, Commander Zhang Qinsheng and Political Commissar Zhang Yang of the Guangzhou Military Area Command, and leading officials from the five provinces (autonomous regions) in central and south China also attended the meeting.
