BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The mainland-based Taiwan Affairs Office under
the State Council, or cabinet, said Tuesday that the mainland was willing to
provide fresh vegetables at any time for Taiwan's typhoon-hit areas.
Typhoon Kalmaegi ruined many crops in the island, affecting vegetable
supplies and people's daily life, said a spokesman with the office. He added
that the mainland was very concerned about this and was prepared to send
vegetables wherever the island needed them.
Kalmaegi made landfall near Ilan in northern Taiwan late on Thursday,
bringing heavy rain. It left 16 people dead and 11 missing in the island.
