BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The People's Daily newspaper is to publish an
editorial on Tuesday to celebrate the 87th anniversary of the Communist Party of
China (CPC), which was founded on July 1,1921.
The editorial, headed "The Wind and Rain-tested, Staunch and Great Party",
says the CPC, with more than 73 million members, has been strengthened and made
more vigorous by the "winds and rains" of the past 87 years, while the trials
have made it more mature and self-confident and its cause more glorious.
The history of the CPC is the unremitting struggle for the independence,
emancipation and prosperity of the Chinese nation, as well as withstanding all
kinds of adversity and going from victory to victory, the editorial says.
It calls the May 12 earthquake relief campaign a new and austere test for
the Party. "The Party Central Committee with Comrade Hu Jintao as the general
secretary has been firm and impassioned about bringing the situation under
control, to lead the whole people of different ethnic groups in overcoming
hardships."
The editorial speaks highly of the central role of Party organizations and
members in dealing with difficulties and risks and their loyalty to the Party
and the people, in both war and peace.
"We are convinced that the wind and rain-tested Communist Party of China
must be able to shoulder the historic task and live up to the expectations of
the people," it says.
