Relief materials from defense departments and armed forces of 14 countries arrived in China

english.chinamil.com.cn 2008-06-25

According to an official of the Ministry of National Defense of the PRC, the Destroyer Sazanami of Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force making a port visit to Zhanjiang delivered 300 blankets, 2,600 portions of canned food and sanitation stuff such as Band-Aid and respirators to the Chinese military yesterday. So far, the relief materials given by the defense departments and the armed forces of 14 countries have arrived in China.

The official said that since Wenchuan was hit by the massive earthquake, the defense departments and the armed forces of the U.S., Russia, Pakistan, Belgium, Uzbekistan, ROK, Serbia, Montenegro, Belarus, Ukraine, Israel, Singapore, Germany and Japan had been highly concerned about the disaster situation in China's Sichuan Province, and in addition to expressing sympathy and solicitude, they swiftly decided to provide assistance to the quake-hit areas in Wenchuan. It is very rare to see magnitude of assistance, the number of countries, and the richness of contents of relief materials.

It is learned that the relief materials provided by Finnish and Romanian armed forces will also soon arrive in China. Before that, Vietnamese and Mongolian armed forces offered USD 30,000 and 150,000 yuan of cash to the quake-hit areas respectively through the Chinese embassies to their countries. Pakistan and Finland used their national strategic material reserves to offer aid to the quake-hit areas in Sichuan, fully reflecting their profound friendship towards the Chinese people.
